CACA 2017 Young Investigator Award

Dr. Shuang Yang in Johns Hopkins University has been selected as the winner of 2017 Young Investigator Award of the Chinese American Chromatography Association (CACA). This award is bestowed annually to a young scientist to recognize his or her exceptional contributions to the development of separation science and its applications, especially in the field of chromatography. It is a prestigious honor that CACA recognizes the best young research scientists in the field of separation science.

Dr. Yang graduated from the Harbin Institute of Technology, China, in 1994 with a degree of B.S. He then obtained his M.S. from Shanghai Jiaotong University, China, in 1997 and another M.S. degree from the National University of Singapore, Singapore, in 2003. He continued his education at the University of Maryland at College Park (UMCP) and received his Ph.D. in 2008 under the supervision of Prof. Don DeVoe. Dr. Yang did his post-doctoral training under Prof. Don DeVoe at UMCP (2008 – 2010) and Prof. Hui Zhang at Johns Hopkins University (2010 – 2013). Dr. Yang currently is a Research Associate in Department of Pathology at Johns Hopkins University. He will join Shandong University, China in 2017 as a Full Professor.

Dr. Yang’s major contributions to separation science include development of a microfluidic platform for analysis of peptides or proteins using CE and LC; integration of IEF with SDS-PAGE on a microchip for high-throughput analysis of intact proteins; development of a chemoenzymatic platform for quantitative analysis of glycans, glycoside occupancy, and intact glycopeptide; development of an innovative 2D approach for online separation of glycans by MS; and design and synthesis of isobaric tags for glycan quantification by LC-MS. Dr. Yang has published 35 peer-reviewed papers in prestigious journals including Nature Biotechnology, NatureProtocols, Lab on a Chip, and Analytical Chemistry. He is also an inventor of three US patents.

This award will be formally presented to Dr. Yang at the Pittcon Conference & Expo to be held during March 5-9, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
