Analysis of nonpolar contaminants in fatty samples, such as meat and edible oil, can be a challenge. Many of these analytes are lipophilic, and they will reside in the fatty portion of the sample we are trying to extract. This requires the use of organic solvents which will also co-extract fatty matrix. Even if using the QuEChERS technique, acetonitrile will extract some fat…and if less polar solvents such as ethyl acetate, acetone, or hexane are used, even more fatty background will be co-extracted. This background is detrimental to subsequent chromatography analysis in many cases.
In this webinar I will be showing you some innovative sorbent-based techniques for clean-up of fat containing samples in the analysis of contaminant residues. Specifically, I will focus on nonpolar residues such as pesticides and PAHs.
